Last summer during a very warm spell we got a call from a client that said they had no air conditioning. I asked the client if anything unusual had happened and he said, “No. not really. I mowed the lawn today and the AC hasn’t worked since then.” so we rushed a service truck over and started looking at the HVAC system.
The lawnmower didn’t do any damage. But we did find a severed low voltage wire on the heat pump unit outside. The wire is very thin and in this case it sat very close to the ground. Apparently, while using his weed whacker, the client cut the wire and shutoff his entire air conditioning system.
Be very careful when tending to your yard around your heat pump. Try to keep the area mulched or surrounded by gravel to help air flow and to prevent accidental issues like this.
